4th Dimension

My last post on this blog gave considerable feedbacks, thank god, there was more appreciation and less criticism. The most interesting thing I learnt from those feedbacks is Many people has many questions   comes from many thoughts gives many feelings and all this is shared in common domain which we can call as culture. I would like to shift focus on culture creation as a process especially when technology starts getting involved in this process. Since week, I am experimenting with my facebook profile by putting random thoughts, obviously some of them are copied but majority of was original. After a long break in posting post on 4 th dimension, I suddenly aggravated by a stranger who pop in gtalk and asking for next post… it feels good when unknown people shows eagerness to read your words or gives their feedback. But strange question rose in my unexplored brain, why we feel so? May be answer needs some research psychologically, biologically, technically, culturally, socially, name the discipline and you’ll get chance of explore a very special, temporary, formal, funy , in short a STRANGE relationship with people and world around us. Until French revolution doctors earned as artisans but now they are on top circle of capitalist society. Now, if we look at cost of administrating the patient, it has takes quarter of each penny. Average annual income spent on health and medicine by an individual is comparatively more than expenses in other sections. Even bankers are seems to be legitimizing such administration and cost of control through insurance. Over and above new prejudice of premium health services and products are helping in boosting up health costs due to irrational planning and higher gimmicks  that people ‘want’ in hospitals. A state (Gujarat) which makes us feels proud about its vibrant developmental model. Shouting as of being worthy in front of world or branding more capital investment as a part of holistic development seems to have become habit this state. With political scene and through quick fix solution providing gives very rosy but gloomy picture about this state to me. Feeling of strong annoyance was observed when students of central university of Gujarat saw news Maruti Suzuki one of leading automobile company showed interest to invest about 1800 crores Rupees in state to setting up a manufacturing plant. News of his death was truly breaking news, as world lost one of its most respected innovators. Steve jobs, one of leading tech innovator who successfully attempted to 'touch' lives of about half population on the globe.   His 'think different' products and enterprises, his spiritual philosophy and motivational life style have influenced many people irrespective to relationship with Silicon Valley. Learning from movies, one of the most desirable ways to learn as well as to teach. This week I got exposure to three good films Yeh Mera India (Hindi), Harishchandrachi Factory (Marathi) and Cidade de Deus (Brazilian). The common thing among these varied movies I found very basic human propensity, something may be termed as passion, madness, eagerness, whatever you can think for the strong feeling to do something, no matter what is the amount of resistance you face. Studying society seems to be one of challenging task, especially when your mind is filled up confusions regarding own (Indian) society and over that you are assigned to study, an American Society!!!! A salient thought came up in my mind when an intellectual lady from Harvard University said that society in America is almost extinct, I felt it as true at first instance, but after that I realized that it was just a lazy acceptance of argument from student of elite university of the world which was supported historical facts.   Coming back again on some more thoughts on control and resistance in this world!!! It was observed that the notion hierarchy rules the world and tries to suppress the notion of equality. Hierarchy is basically Greek term hierarchia which means arrangement of objects in “above”, “below” and “at same level”. In simple words it is an ordered set or non cyclic arrangement of things. Now days, the hierarchy is more commonly used in to represent levels of relations in society, either it be a class, caste, gender, occupation etc. Every human knowingly or unknowingly emits the notion of hierarchy, it is so well set in minds of humans that notion or concept of equality seems to be illusion. Before discussing anything, let me share some questions raised in my mind this week, why do parents, teachers, leaders, boyfriends, girlfriends etc. care for us? Thinking on word care provided me an unorthodox answer which I would like to share. From a day we are born we have been controlled by various emotions, roles, institutions and culture at large. Various emotions under the name of care, expectations or desires control our behavior at every stage of our life. For instance mother stopping or forcing her child to do something which she emotionally, culturally or socially feels not good for her child. Similarly, in every institution humans are bond to perform certain roles as per individual capacity and ability like in marriage, family, education or religious institutions. These institutions are said and meant to control our behavior and thoughts in society and necessary for survival of culture at certain level which again impose greater control over our behavior and thoughts. If we look at today’s society its broadly divided into two basic communities the owner community and the worker community (labor community, including managers also).owner community in Marxian perspective is ruling class which owns forces of production and tends to exploit (make optimum utilization – that’s what they calls) worker community and therefore conflict of interest between these two communities are observed in market. These owner communities control various institutions like economy, politics, religion etc. in society. Reservations!!! One of the oldest controversial debate since Indian political independence. Whoever is part of India (Indian) had must thought about reservation policies at least twice in his life time.  What a big deal?? We are now habituated with such political policies which can be raised and suppressed as per the political needs of our ‘representatives’. Studying and working with esteemed government education institutions allowed me to observe picture more clearly and differently (that’s what I think). Reservations policies aim to uplift that population stratum which comes ‘at the end’ of Indian society which includes scheduled castes, scheduled tribe and religious minorities.  Providing reservations in education and employment is argued as it provides opportunities to suppressed populace and bring equality into society. Relations!!! The most basic thing which keeps this world as well as Bollywood moving. This week two wonderful or say it awesome movies ignited thoughts in my head. These two movies for me was really heart touching because it was aligned to my thoughts, my experiences and my desires. Basically these two came up with very solicitous issues and dealt with basic problems which we as humans face due imposed relations. These two movies are chillar party and zindagi na milegi dobara, a mainstream commercial cinema with profit intense provided real insight of human nature. Talking about chillar party under production of Salman Khan (dabangwale :D) and UTV came up with relations between friends , parents and animal in smooth manner. A gang of colony kids fighting to save a stray dog with and without their parents support is beautifully narrated in this story. As a social animal we inherit skills of fighting, loving, caring etc. according to change in age, time and situation we upgrade such skills which further impact our behavior. Our behavior is mainly situation driven; the way we behave in front of our parents is different than the way we behave in with our friends or with our colleagues at workplace. Let’s attempt to think critically why as a human we do so? During our early childhood we develop strong affective ties with family members.  These ties provide drastic modification and make us conscious about basic social responsiveness like our religion, education or gender. After that we have situation which is noted as a difficult period in the life cycle i.e. adolescence. In particular, associated with this situation is prominence in our society of what has been called the youth culture, a distinctive pattern of values and attitudes is observed here. Almost every site we visit today has lots of ads; nothing seems to be wrong in that!!! Most noteworthy are the ads from matrimonial sites. Not only ads, I am sure all most every internet user (especially in India) would have been received invitation or advertising from any matrimonial sites.   19 years old girls or boys are getting phone calls offering discounted packages for searching their life mates, weird?? It’s true!!!   These sites are so desperately marketing their products and services as if they are most worried about our marriages in this world. Why?? Let’s have a look - It is a reflection of mindset new Indian urban youth having greater access to Internet which now a day seems to be flooded with matrimonial sites which offers new horizons of romance and ease in searching life partner as if its violating traditional constraints.
