EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES TO CREATE INEQUALITIES

Reservations!!! One of the oldest controversial debate since Indian political independence. Whoever is part of India (Indian) had must thought about reservation policies at least twice in his life time.  What a big deal?? We are now habituated with such political policies which can be raised and suppressed as per the political needs of our ‘representatives’.

Studying and working with esteemed government education institutions allowed me to observe picture more clearly and differently (that’s what I think). Reservations policies aim to uplift that population stratum which comes ‘at the end’ of Indian society which includes scheduled castes, scheduled tribe and religious minorities.  Providing reservations in education and employment is argued as it provides opportunities to suppressed populace and bring equality into society. What a wonderful plan laid down by the constructors of this nation- Keep certain things reserved for your poor younger brother!!!
People coming under reservation (‘category’) seem as if they are taking miss-advantage of such policies. Clearly seen as when people claim for particular job or scholarship not on the basis of merit but on the basis of caste. For them job or scholarship is their RIGHT and government has to pay it, who cares for public money?? . I don’t remember any country which offers reservation on the basis of ethnic or religious minority nor provides EXTRA privileges on the basis of social backwardness and interestingly India still lacks in setting up standards deciding social backwardness.

Keeping faith in constitution of India, such policies has been proven boon to those who were aware and had access to information or media. They took advantage of all provided privileges by government. Think for those who haven’t got information, who are still not aware or not able to access resources.
Reservations, instead of bringing equality its creating inequality and emotional unrest among unreserved people. Reservations are piece of bread thrown to a barking dog through a meal of stronger dog and that barking dog assume that piece as if it is his right to over that thrown piece and starts barking again those dogs who has provided it a food.

Reservation policies have proved its success only providing economic growth (not even growth only opportunities) to elites in backward circles of this country. Such discriminatory (though positively) policies could not bridge a gap between haves and have-nots rather it’s creating newer unequal identities among communities and increasing new formats of discrimination. Reservations do not guarantee in improvement of quality of workforce in economy nor it guarantee equality in society, forgot about social development.

Indians need development not reservations
