Women: subject and object of entertainment

Women, wonderful creation of supreme power. An other side and most necessary part of human species. . I can write a book (or books) on women appreciation not only me anyone can write a lot many things about a creature which brought him/her in this world, who nature him, who allowed reproduction of species.

Today the world is talking about empowerment of women and not only talking but it is observed that the condition of women is improving. Everyone knows that the women of today is more free and liberal then women of past. They are allowed to get education, they are allowed to work in the field of their choice, they are allowed to select man of their desire etc

The most eye catching trend I have observed in media about women is that women are used as object by the media under the label of empowerment. It can be dark side of so-called empowerment but it’s not wrong. I would like to share some questions which aroused in my mind, why there are more female news readers? Why king fisher’s calendar clicks only females? Why there are item girls and no item boy? What defines complete man to Raymond people? How many women won reality shows? How many women CEO are there? Why magazine or books with cover page of women have more sales? Why people prefer “size-0” or “36-25-36”? Why literally works of women are not much published? Why women are best for “customer care” executive? Why saas bahu soaps are popular? Why suspense stories or crime stories with rape, discrete relations etc are more popular? And the list goes on. Is this an empowerment?

“Modern” people want their daughter or daughter-in-law to work in office seems to be empowerment but on other side – women got dual responsibility (load) of managing home and office both. If wife and husband both goes to office then why can’t husband and wife both can do house hold work together? Even in so called modern offices women are discriminated, why can’t we see much women in board room where actual decisions are taken?

As per my view our society had made very rigid framework for gender biases which says that being female or male is directly related to roles you perform in daily life. I honestly blame media for portraying women as object of sexual desires of man just of sake of expanding their business. It is media who responsible for affecting the routine life of common people, it should be responsible enough to find out what is important for society, of course! Lakme fashion week is not important then farmer’s suicides. Even feminine magazines and TV shows are supporting male gaze, women have started thinking that if they’ll have good “cuts and curves” they’ll fetch more male friends, I don’t know how true is it?

I am not talking in negative form, I feel really happy when I see salman khan selling wheel powder, when SRK sales lux , when Raymond changed its definition of COMPLETE MAN, when shahid kapoor sales shampoo etc. When husband will not feel ashamed of making dinner for their wife, when sisters will get guns and cars to play and brother will get Barbie there will be real equality and there will be real empowerment of women.

In today the media give more important to Lakme fashion week and other reality show. There is only one reason that human beings are selfish,of course! Lakme fashion week is not important then farmer’s suicides but they give more important to that type of show because they earn lots of money from that type of report or news.

very true, in so called Modern society people want their daughter-in-laws to work in the offices but as they come home, mostly nobody is there to offer a glass of water, rather the family members expect her only to go in the kitchen and perform her duties.

Very good questions that you are up with... But, it's just we, the young generation are able solve such problems. And when it comes to equality, can you imagine any girl wearing dresses just like heroines in movies and come to your class just as they do in any movie? obviously not, similarly no boy will be accepted in a dress which is just possible in any movie. Whats this? why can't we? coz we have certain framework and mindset of ours that never allows us to think beyond that! And here, if you say, "yes, i can accept the thing u mentioned" then, i must say, there is something wrong with you.. as it's not possible.. now, you must be wondering why i am talking about these things? well... it's coz m talking about mindsets, now, if i talk about the mindset of girls or women, they are cultivated in such a manner that they can't accept certain things. for instance, when a hubby and a wife both are working, and in the evening when they both come back to home, the hubby will sit in on sofa and will ask a wife for a tea, the wife will make a cup of tea happily for him.. the point of equality and the point of her tiresomeness will not stop her to prepare a tea for her hubby. can u imagine why? coz she is grown up in such an atmosphere that she just can't. now, i am not against your views when you say that males should help women in household works too... in fact, i am happy to read these points as a feminist, but, IS IT ACTUALLY POSSIBLE FOR YOU GUYS TO CULTIVATE YOUR MIND IN THAT MANNER? this is the major question...well, think about it!!:-)

YOU GUYZ , WE GALS , people talking about mindset are following mindset :) thank you for giving views on this post. I think its a problem of socializing child, we always in social science "women is not born but made" child don't know whether he/she is he or she, its family who make them understand weather child is brother or sister. and I believe if our generation understand this notion we can cultivate our next generation with the sense of equality. If a boy or girl of today's world are conscious about this and socialize their child in such manner then I think change is possible and Media can serve as active player in this change but it is primarily necessary for our gen to understand difference and give better life to others

Well...well....wel...Media..!! media can never help us in any manner..as it has become a tool to earn money rather than serving the nation and society.. have you ever seen any news with the headline, "A boy was physically harassed" you might say.. it doesn't happen.. well, it does happen quite a lot now a days... but, you will definitely find the news 'a girl was raped or harassed' almost everyday in a bulk of news.. what do you say??

thats true but its not the case of always , i agree on that media is now profit oriented institute. Sometimes for profit also people of India are benefited , the best example is scams exposing scenes :) if you look at surat rape case, ruchika murder case etc are brought forward by media and media had very positive impact in solving such cases. i accept that news are now published according to taste of people no one is ready to ready read news like , "A boy was physically harassed". Media is reflection of taste of people.
